New Puno Infomercial Focuses on a Properly-staffed PNP

In a move to strengthen the police force in the country and as away to ensure the safety of the general public the Department of Interior and Local Government makes it a point to add around 3,000 police officers to their stable every year. This flagship program by the department should not come as a surprise since security and peace are two of the three major programs of DILG. The other main role of the department is to promote better local governance. This policy move by the department which is to add 3000 police men every year to the force is the subject of the new infomercial to be released by Secretary Ronnie Puno.

In the said infomercial, viewers will learn the value of beefing up the police force. This latest infomercial from the office of the secretary is just one of the many others that will surely follow, and all of these will focus on the need to protect and ensure the safety of the general public.

Just this week, the Philippine National Police has announced that the force is in need of 7000 new cops that will help boost its operational capability. The report added that the slots will be filled up this year, and applications are on-going. In a statement made by Director General Jesus Versoza, he said that they are now opening the recruitment for second semester of 2009 and added that they are encouraging interested and qualified individuals to submit their applications to the nearest police station. Director General Versoza added that the 7000 vacancies are on top of the 10000 officers needed by next year as ordered by President Arroyo. This order by the president is geared at meeting the ideal ratio of one policeman for every 500 citizens.

The hiring of 3000 new police officers per year, as highlighted on the new infomercial by Secretary Puno is part of the modernization program of the Philippine National Police. Part of the plan of the PNP is to recruit 15,000 police officers in 5 years. Senior Supt. Leonard Espina clarified that the posts are open not just to the graduates of Criminology. The PNP spokesperson said that they will also accept graduates who are graduates of other courses provided that the interested applications can submit the proper credentials and they have the right eligibility.
